Berkley Township, Ocean County, NJ – Amherst Drive in Berkley Township is a long, dead end court with rear yard waterfront access to Barnegat Bay. As such, sedimentary soils are common under the streets and require water main operations diligence.
CES was hired to carefully plan and oversee the replacement of water mains on this street.
Open trench installation requested by the owner led to a contractor’s questions on the presence of “Corduroy Roads,” a historic common road building method that placed log roads over swampy areas. Soil replacement and proper compaction was a must for this waterfront area.
Project cost was well over $500,000.

Woolwich Township, Gloucester County, NJ – To increase water distribution throughout the fast growing Woolwich area, our utility client required the addition of a new 16-inch Tyton Ductile Iron Pipe Water Transmission Main on High Hill Road. This main runs 5,953 feet from the Tri-County Regional Pipeline at Township Line Road in neighboring Logan Township, where it interconnects with an existing water main within a residential development.
The project included the location of an air relief valve at the highest point on High Hill Road, and the location of a meter pit as requested by the client.
Reports included information regarding sensitive environmental areas adjacent to the construction area.
Plans included traffic control and soil erosion measures. The mains were hydrostatically tested to ensure integrity and chlorination treated prior to being placed in service.

Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County, NJ – This CES client required a review and redesign of its existing water treatment facility in Egg Harbor Township. As the facility is adjacent to a bay and located on sandy beach soils, special care was given during construction.
As the treatment facility lot was unusually large, a minor subdivision was proposed and approved to allow two new home building lots consistent with the community homes, while maintaining the water treatment facility.
In addition to significant internal updates, the building itself was enlarged and updated with cedar shingle, vinyl type siding and architecture similar to the surrounding community.

Washington Township, Gloucester County, NJ – This project involved widening and resurfacing nearly a mile of single lane County road to provide two lanes in each direction with appropriate turn lanes.
This completed Gloucester County’s years-long effort to provide better traffic flow between Monroe Township and Delsea Drive. It also completed the connection from Monroe Township to Route 55 in Deptford by way of Egg Harbor Road (also a County road) and gave Kennedy Heath System’s local hospital better regional access.
The project included roadway widening, reconstruction and resurfacing, and design of horizontal alignment so that right-of-way acquisition was not necessary. Design included detailed grading, curb ramps, signing and striping, guiderail, soil erosion and sediment control and traffic control /staging, as well as underground infiltration system to accommodate stormwater runoff from new pavement widening.

NJDEP Beach Replenishment Project at Oakwood Beach
Services:
- Surveying
Elsinboro Township, Salem County, New Jersey – The NJ Department of Environmental Protection – Bureau of Coastal Engineering, hired CES to perform surveys of 13 parcels of land for the Oakwood Beach Replenishment Project on the Delaware River Bay. This was a long awaited project, funded by the Federal Government and NJDEP. Because of the eroded beachfront, residents had seen their properties take on flooding and damage during bad storms. The nearly $10 million project aimed to replenish the beach and better protect the properties associated with the waterfront.
CES surveyed individual properties so agreements could be formed between the homeowners and the State.

Marriott – Residence Inn
- Control Survey
- Construction Stakeout
- As-Built Surveys
- ALTA Survey
Hamilton Township, Mercer County, NJ – Briad Construction Services chose CES to provide full construction surveying services for its latest Marriott Hotel on Route 130.
The initial efforts were to identify control points and lay stakes for initial grading. Later surveying involved all aspects of the parking areas, utility lines, stormwater management, building, pool, and an imaginative multi-sport (pickleball) outdoor court.
While the surveying was hindered by the large amount of work vehicles on site at any one time, CES personnel worked with the site superintendent to assure all relevant points were available as needed.
Lastly, CES surveyed the final construction and prepared as-built surveys and an ALTA survey to the level required for permanent financing and release of any bonds.
